Tim Thompson’s Background
I founded SPF Insurance in 2006.
In 2001, I left the corporate world after 19 years working as an electrical engineer in the Semiconductor industry. Being a type 1 Diabetic, I was aware that I was UN-insurable and couldn’t get regular health insurance, so I choose to go on COBRA coverage.
Our COBRA insurance only lasted for 18 months, and as we got closer to the end of that period, I began searching for our next health insurance solution.
The internet was still young at that time, so not much information was available online. After weaving my way through the maze of insurance information, I found a solution. At the same time, I realized there were many other people going through the same frustrating search, and I knew I could help them. Thus began the seed of SPF Insurance Services.
Owning this company gives me the flexibility to do things the way I think they should be done. My motto for SPF Insurance is to help every caller regardless of whether we get paid or not. We educate and answer every question. We take the time to ensure that you fully understand.
One of the common praises we hear from many of you is that we take time with you and don’t rush you to make a decision. This is what makes SPF different from other brokers you have contacted or worked with in the past.
We treat people with patience because we know how confusing the health care market can be. Clients and non-clients thank us for our hard work by referring friends and family to us. SPF Insurance has grown for this simple principle.
Silvia Whiting’s Background
As a licensed insurance broker and certified Covered California agent, I joined SPF Insurance in September 2015.
I was born in Italy and moved to the United States in 2001. I am now an American citizen.
Prior to joining the SPF Insurance team, I worked 10 years as a lighting specialist consultant. The years of building client trust and relationships were deeply gratifying.
Moving forward with the next phase of my life, I want to continue helping people, with a company that shares my philosophy for kindness in customer service.

Marc Sandknop’s Background
Over the years I have come to understand that many things, when first presented, are confusing and frustrating to deal with. Insurance is certainly no exception.
I clearly remember the first time an insurance representative “helped” me choose a group insurance plan that was offered by my employer. I had just spent the better part of my lunch hour waiting in line, and when my turn came I was given an avalanche of information with little or no explanation. I was asked to choose the plan that was best for me, and the choice was made even more urgent by the impatience of my co-workers waiting in line behind me. I left the table with no real understanding of the decision I had just made, and the entire process made me feel foolish and too discouraged to go back and get help with the questions I still had.
As a member of the SPF Insurance team, I am committed to making sure this will never happen to any of our clients.
I have been an educator for most of my life. I was an English TA and writing instructor in college, a USPTA tennis professional and coach for eight years, and an English teacher for almost two decades. No matter the subject or pursuit, I learned that the best education does not occur when people are told what to do or are just given facts; the best education and understanding occurs when you answer a person’s questions.
